The Paris Metro collection complements Paris Underground, a unique series of immersive recordings that capture the soundscape of the Parisian subway system, presented in an immersive 5.0 surround format. The initial goal was to document the motion and ambiance inside the subway cars, providing sound designers and editors with rich immersive audio material.
Paris Metro offers a comprehensive compilation of the different lines of the Parisian metro. Each line was recorded at 4 to 5 stops, capturing the sounds of the moving vehicle from within, with a voice-free variation for flexible use. This option allows the recordings to transcend the context of the metro, making them adaptable for other creative audio projects.
Recording Immersive Sounds of the Parisian Metro
Recording each line of the Paris metro required numerous sessions. Each time early on Sunday mornings to avoid unwanted noise interferences, such as announcements (although there are many even at this time) or conversations (you can find some free announcements by following the link). This meticulous approach enabled the capture of not only sounds inside the cars but also the sounds of passing trains. From their arrival at the platform to their departure into the tunnel, creating a complete and immersive sequence of the Paris metro.
Additionally, I’ve included specific recordings of door openings and closings in an LCR (Left-Center-Right) tripist format. Which adds to the richness and cohesion of the collection.

The voice-free metro recordings provide great versatility for sound creations, they can simply illustrate the interior of a metro, or be repurposed in completely different contexts, wherever the soundscape of a moving vehicle is desired, such as in a spaceship for example.
