In The Field
This was my first outing with such an extensive surround sound recording setup. It took some time to get accustomed to this new way of capturing sound. With the city so quiet, I had no interruptions or distractions, just an incredible playground for sound. It took around ten night sessions to gather all the sounds needed for this pack.
Recording sessions were made between midnight and 5 a.m, in the cold of winter nights.
It was an incredible experience to wander through the streets of this beautiful city, all alone.
Intentions
This pack was recorded during the second lockdown in France, specifically in the city of Paris. The idea was to take advantage of the exceptional curfew in effect to capture the soundscape of a city operating at a much slower pace. Even with the lockdown measures in place, I still encountered a few vehicles and people during the recording sessions.
The collection includes recordings of the city’s quiet backgrounds, as well as calm atmospheres punctuated by occasional isolated vehicles, offering a new portrait of a city always in motion, but this time seen from a different perspective.
