Night in Kyoto : A Sonic Immersion into Japanese Nights
The “Night in Kyoto” collection complements “Day in Kyoto” to provide a complete sonic portrait of this fascinating city, from dawn till dusk. During my time in Kyoto, I had the chance to explore both sides of the city, and this immersion inspired me to separate the sounds captured during the day from those recorded at night, creating two distinct soundscapes. This approach could easily extend to other places and settings, enriching the concept for future collections.
For these nighttime recordings, I used the same compact equipment as during the day, allowing for seamless mobility with just a backpack and a bike. As my stay in Japan was entirely dedicated to sound recording, I organized my days and nights around recording sessions to make the most of each moment. As many know, capturing quality audio is a time-intensive process, and finding ideal recording spots often required long explorations. This with my surround system in hand, it was a bit tiring in the long run, but the sounds are worth it !
Kyoto by Night : A Unique Atmosphere for Sound Recordings
Kyoto‘s nights offered an incredible calm and serenity, rare for a city of its size. In this tranquil atmosphere, despite the accumulated fatigue, I was able to focus fully on capturing extended surround atmospheres. Alone in the silent streets, free from interruptions, I was fortunate to capture recordings of rich detail, perfect for creating immersive ambiences that suit a wide range of audiovisual projects.
The “Night in Kyoto” collection presents this delicate and soothing side of the Japanese city, providing a valuable resource for those seeking authentic and enveloping sounds to accompany nighttime scenes. Let yourself be transported into the quiet streets of Kyoto at night, where each sound, even the most subtle, takes on a unique dimension.
